Inspector Montalbano The Catalanotti Method Review

In this two-hour episode of the detective series, the main character, Salvo Montalbano, played by Luca Zingaretti, is woken up by a phone call from his deputy, Domenico ‘Mimi’ Augello, played by Cesare Adolfo Bocci. Mimi tells Montalbano that he found a dead body while engaging in a sexual encounter and is concerned that he may be wrongly accused of the crime.

Mimi asks Montalbano to investigate the crime and find the real murderer to clear his own name. Montalbano’s reliable assistant, Giuseppe Fazio, played by Peppino Mazzotta, joins them in the investigation. The actor who plays Fazio is now 50 years old, but many of the cast members have aged little since the beginning of the series.

The victim of the murder is revealed to be Carmelo Catalanotti, a man who both loaned money at high-interest rates and ran a theater group called Trinacriate, made up of devoted actors who will do anything Catalanotti asks. Catalanotti’s method of “method acting” is eccentric and self-absorbed.

As the investigation unfolds, viewers are introduced to the strange and unusual amateur actors of Trinacriate and to Antonia Nicoletti, a beautiful head of forensics temporarily assigned to work at the local police station, played by Greta Scarano.

A romantic relationship quickly develops between the older detective and his younger colleague, which could potentially jeopardize the ten-year relationship he has with his girlfriend, Livia Burlando, recently played by Sonia Bergamasco.

Montalbano 2022 – 2023

Inspector Montalbano was first aired in 1999, and since then new episodes have been aired every one or two years until 2021. There are still two books left, so new chapters of Inspector Montalbano can be made.

We live in Ragusa where most of the scenes of Inspector Montalbano are filmed and during the summer of 2022, we could not visit Montalbano’s house in Punta Secca until October because it was being used for filming during September.

While Andrea Camilleri, the author of the Montalbano detective novels, died in 2019, there are still 2 more books that Camilleri published before he died that have not been made into episodes of the Montalbano TV series.

According to the information we obtained, it is very likely an episode 38 during 2023 and maybe an episode 39 at some point. The Catalanotti Method episode of Inspector Montalbano was directed by Luca Zingaretti (the actor who plays Salvo Montalbano) so it is likely that he will continue to direct the next episodes.

As we get more information, we will update it on the site. I recommend you to read our article where is Inspector Montalbano filmed in Sicily.
